Boltable twistlock — ABD-D1
ABD-D1 bolted-on dovetail twistlock — a single-casting chassis on a 16 mm base plate that bolts to a concrete foundation or steel structure, securing a container with no permanent modification to the container itself.
A containerised substation and battery energy storage system (BESS) for the solar industry, landed on boltable twistlock foundations set with Hilti chemical anchors to cut crane offload time.
Client

With a growing solar-farm industry in South Africa, there is a drive for efficient installation of containerised substations and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
The implemented solution uses standard boltable twistlocks — single twistlocks on the corners and double twistlocks where two containers meet. Using Hilti anchors and epoxy, the foundations are easy to install and create a strong base; the landing pads on the twistlocks can be levelled by a surveyor before the containers arrive on site.
This guides and secures the containers to the concrete foundations and reduces crane offload time. Once landed, the twistlocks are locked using the handles, creating a positive engagement and bonding between the foundations and the containers.

Dovetail twistlock welded to a 200 x 200 x 16 mm base plate — the standard fabricated boltable, and the starting point for any bolt pattern, footprint or mounting arrangement a site requires.

Threaded anchor rods set in injectable resin — the chemical-anchor fixing that holds a boltable or anchor twistlock down to a concrete slab or foundation.
