Wet Concentrator Plant — Moma, Mozambique

Five distinct, hot-dip galvanised boltable twistlock types, one per module mounting arrangement, connecting containerised motor control centres and equipment modules (4 820–5 500 kg per container) to the deck of a floating wet concentrator plant at the Moma titanium mineral sands mine, fabricated and supplied in 2025.

Moma, on the north-east coast of Mozambique, mines titanium mineral sands. Dredges work the ore in a mining pond and each mining operation has its own wet concentrator plant, floating alongside the dredge and advancing as the ore body is worked — so every load on its deck has to be positively located and positively held, on a structure that never stops moving.

Twistlock Africa supplied the connection between that deck and the containerised motor control centres and equipment modules carried on it. Five mounting arrangements were designed around the deck steelwork and fabricated as five distinct twistlock types, hot-dip galvanised and delivered crated to Mozambique. Module masses carried ranged from 4 820 kg to 5 500 kg per container.

A twistlock rather than a welded cleat was used because the modules are not permanent: they lift off for maintenance and set back down onto the same fixings, engagement made and broken by hand — no hot work on a floating plant carrying process equipment. Every base plate was laser-etched with its type, its fabrication date and a link to the project databook held online, so any unit can be traced to its own certification.

Fabricated boltable twistlocks

Dovetail twistlock welded to a 200 x 200 x 16 mm base plate — the standard fabricated boltable, and the starting point for any bolt pattern, footprint or mounting arrangement a site requires.
