On-deck stowage on container ships — tier-to-tier locking that sets and releases itself; high-throughput port and terminal handling, with no manual locking or unlocking at the stack.
The fully automatic twistlock locks stacked ISO containers together and releases them again without anyone locking or unlocking it by hand. A twistlock is fitted into each bottom corner casting of the container before it is lifted; when the container is landed, the lower cone engages the corner casting below automatically. On discharge the container is lifted off as normal and the lower cones release automatically, so no one has to work at the stack. There is no release wire or handle. It fits ISO 1161 corner castings.
