Container Types Overview
What each ISO container type is, what it weighs and what it carries — the starting point for choosing hardware.
Selecting the right hardware starts with knowing the container. This reference covers the standard ISO series-1 container types Twistlock Africa hardware interfaces with — external dimensions, internal dimensions, door openings, and tare/gross/payload weights — across general-purpose, reefer, open-top and flat-rack units.
Corner castings sit at the same ISO 1161 positions on every Series 1 container regardless of type, which is what allows one common range of twistlocks, lashing points and lifting hardware to serve the whole fleet. Dimensions are drawn from carrier and industry reference specifications; individual units vary by manufacturer and age — the CSC (Convention for Safe Containers) plate riveted to the actual unit is always the authoritative reference for that specific container.

Scope note: This reference covers the container types Twistlock Africa's hardware range most commonly interfaces with. Bulk/hopper, half-height and open-side types are not included. Tank containers appear here for reference only — Twistlock Africa does not supply them — and they vary far more by cargo class (general chemical, food-grade, gas/pressurised) than other types: the page shown covers the general-purpose T11 chemical/food-grade tank, and pressurised gas tanks in the T50 series run to materially different tare and gross-weight figures.
